About

You have come here to get fit and fit we will get you. Right in your own home. No matter how much or little money you have, if you are a man, woman, old or young or whatever shade your skin is. You can do it, just like I did.

Me Summer 2009What Kind Of Stupid Name Is That?

The person on the left is me, Evilcyber, a name I came to bear because anything that made sense was already in use when I tried to sign up for YouTube. When I chose it, I never imagined that it would become my symbol of giving out free home workout and nutrition advice.  But sometimes things simply take on a life of their own. And heah, at least it is pretty unique.

In my teens I was skinny, pale and had bad acne. In my twens the acne was gone, I was still slim, but not underweight anymore. But then the scale dipped in the other direction, because I got a busy desk job and practically ceased all physical movement (ok, not all, but almost). After some years this resulted in me weighing 196 lbs at 5’11″ (89 kg at 1.80 m) and being miserable.

Me October 2006

2006 – 196 lbs (89 kg)

In 2007 I realized something had to change and, clueless as I was, my first attempt at losing weight gloriously failed: I tried following a popular diet I had found in a magazine and switched my entire nutrition to eating salads. After four days of this torture I threw up and quit. I felt I just wasn’t made to have a normal weight and thought of myself as a total failure.

Enter The Romans

After getting over this setback, I applied my background in scientific research (it has to be good for something) and – of all things – interest in Roman history to the problem. After all, athletes in antiquity didn’t have fancy gyms and supplements worth a fortune, so how did they become as amazingly fit as they were?

Using this approach I saw the core of the problem and realized two things: I needed to find a diet that suited me and not some supermodel, and that getting bigger muscles requires nothing but something heavy to work against.

Evil December 2009

2009 – 163 lbs (74 kg)

I read up on the pure basics of strength training and started exercising by doing knee push-ups, chin-ups with the help of a chair and lunges with my body as weight. I also picked up running, which in the beginning meant that I ran for a minute, had to catch my breath and then try again. At the same time I also learned that the best way for me to lose weight was by controlling my calories, because it gave me leeway in choosing foods, as long as I controlled the amounts.

It took me four months to lose 33 lbs (15 kg), which sometimes was quite tough, but paid off.  No longer was I exhausted from swiftly walking down a street or had a mid-section that looked like I was due for delivery any minute now.

You Can Do It!

In other words: If you read this and are overweight, I have been there. If your arms look like sticks, I know that feeling as well. And if I was able to turn things around, you can do it, too, no matter if you don’t have enough money or time or are too self-conscious to join a gym, follow fancy diet plans or buy expensive supplements.

To spread this message is why I started evilcyber.com is and why I do my fitness videos. In  the beginning there was just me, but today I sometimes also have guest authors – people I know and trust and who understand my goal.

Seeing Is Believing

Here is my message in a video, complete with pictures showing what I looked like before I started everything with a cheap pair of running shoes and a couple old dumbbells:
