Remember I showed you this exercise with a dumbbell? It also works with a barbell!
In my opinion the movement is more stable than with the dumbbell, as the forearms have to do, well, less stabilizing. Of course you still have watch your form!
Better With A Bench?
When you look for this exercise on the internet or see it done at gyms, you’ll notice people use a bench for it. But is that necessary? In my opinion not. The range of motion you get is a bit smaller when you do triceps extensions on the floor, but it doesn’t render the exercise ineffective.
If you don’t have a bench but would still like the bigger ROM, check my $5 home bench solution and do your extensions with the setup I used for hamstring curls in that video. The length of the board is enough to rest your head and buttocks on it.
