What is better, using free weights or machines to build muscle? If you are just starting out, stay away from the machines and save the money you have to spend on a huge home workout station.

Beginners, Keep It Simple!

For those of you who want to work out at home, the decision between free weights or a machine means spending or not spending a lot of money, as a home weightlifting station can cost several thousands, while a set of dumbbells can be had for little money. And if you work out at a gym, you usually have both options at your disposal, so what should you do?

In this video we are going to look at the advantages and disadvantages of each option and what beginner and advanced lifters benefit more from:

    !!!! Evil recommended…. machines!? I can’t believe it..

Too bad you didn’t include “do pull downs, not ups”, that’d stop the 800 pull up/down threads we’ve gotten in the last week.

He recommended them for those who have already built their bodies through free weights and might have a muscle or two that’s lagging behind or not to what they want it to be so they can isolate that muscle and even it out to the others.

Machines aren’t good in my opinion as a full workout but I can see why someone would want to do one to even things out at a certain point.

Well, in my opinion most recreational athletes won’t reach the state where this “finetuning” is necessary.
