Dumbbell Curls At Home
The dumbbell curl for the biceps is the arm exercise most guys want to do. Here is how to do curls correctly, how not to do them and what place dumbbell curls have in your workouts.
How To Do Dumbbell Curls
If there is one isolation exercise you see done most often – most often wrong, that is – then it’s the dumbbell curl.
But all you really have to do is hold the dumbbell in your hand by your side and then, with a twisting motion, bring it to the front of your body.
The key iw to not go into swinging motions:
Really, Don’t Cheat!
As hinted in the video, you sometimes see guys do tons of weight on these, but that often isn’t as much a testament of their strength, but of how much they are willing to cheat themselves. Doing 20 lbs fully controlled is more useful than 40 lbs with loads of momentum.
The only case I can think of where the swinging might make sense is if you are trying to force out some negatives in addition to your regular reps. But then again, why subject your shoulders to all that centrifugal force, when you can just use one dumbbell at a time and get assistance from the free hand?

is this one arm per set? or same arm per set?
The set is complete when each arm has done the same number of reps. It’s usually a good idea to let the weaker arm take the lead – that way you won’t develop / make worse asymmetry.
Would you recommend doing all reps on one arm and then the other, alternating arms between sets or alternating arms during sets?
I think that’s a question of personal preference. Personally I like to alternate, but try both and see what you like better 🙂
