Great workout music can be anything from hard, driving beats that get you through the last set, to mellow rhythms that bring you into a trance-like state. Here are some of my personal favorites that accompany me when moving weights or when I’m on running bouts.

Basil Poledouris – Anvil of Crom

Tell me you can listen to this piece and don’t imagine yourself swinging an 8 lb longsword at people who can turn themselves into snakes.  And let’s not get into “what is best in life”.

Linkin Park feat. Jay-Z – Numb Encore

For something completely different, there is Linkin Park doing a nice crossover with rapper Jay-Z.

Public Image Limited – Order of Death

Public Image Limited, also known as PiL, took punk and rock and formed them into a new, unique sound. This song’s grim lyrics crashing with its energy always get to me – I listen to it and am determined to see the session through.

Iggy Pop – Real Wild Child

You need a song that keeps you afloat during the HI part of your HIIT session? Heck, this does it for me.

Scooter – A Little Bit Too Fast

For some, Scooter presents the best of German techno. For others, the worst. To me, H.P. Baxxter knows how to deliver high-octane music, even if it’s fast food.

What’s Your Favorite Workout Music?

Of course, there are other songs I listen to, but these here usually stay and often get airtime into my ears. Maybe my selection is also bit quirky, as I don’t really have that genre to listen to. What are your favorites?

Lots of death, thrash, and the harder metalcore.
