Thank you. Yes, I wouldn't be able to run without my extention on my shoe, so I 110% agree with you there. Thank you, for giving me the advise for swift walking and then jogging :)

Heah Dana, word of caution: I'm not a doctor, so these are not the words of a healthcare professional ;)

For you to go jogging, the key in my opinion is that the lacking length of the shorter leg has to be accounted for. In other words: you need shoes that put both legs on equal footing, quite literally. Otherwise I fear that the impact of running would send more stress toward your spine and pelvis. That could lead to or make worse an existing scoliosis.

That being said, at the moment I'd much rather see you do swift walks anyway, because at your current weight running is a lot of stress for your joints. Which actually goes for any person with a lot of extra weight, shorter leg or not.

When you are down to about 30 extra lbs, you can try light jogging and see how things go. If it's painful, then biking would be a good alternative for you.

Quick question: I want to do both do cardio (running and walking) but also work out (pullups, pushups, crunches). I would rather do them both on the same day. Which one is better to do first?

evilcyber: Thank you so much for writing this. I am 22 and 67 pounds overweight. I am trying to develop a weekly exercise schedule. The only two things I can see having issues with is I have one leg shorter than the other by an inch and 1/3, so I have to purchase normal sneakers that have almost perfectly flat soles (which any running shoe does not have, they curve for arch support) and my orthotics and prosthetic doctor attaches a extension. (Mostly I buy Nike; they are sneakers, but not considered "running shoes".) The second issue is I do not have health insurance. I am and part-time working college student so I cannot afford just to go to a doctor for a checkup, I wish I could but I just can’t. Do you have any advice for me, who just wants to be healthier and better myself? Thank you, Dana

Missing one little key point. Plan your route. If you don't you may end up many kilometers from your starting point. Since you have to go back home (your starting point) it would be a bad idea if you run out of steam when you are 10 km from home and have to walk back. This is what kills the motivation of running for me. Start off small and expand your route as you get better.
