I don’t like this policy at all. Its the governments role to educate and inform people on proper dietary habits. NOT to make the decisions for them…

Yeah I don’t think a ban is effective. It stimulates rebellion and distrust with elected officials. If you want people to drink less soda then you have to make people not want it. not telling someone they can’t have it.
