I recently saw a documentary about food waste in Europe, where one German farmer reported that 1/3 of his potatoes stay on the field and he lets locals pick them for free. He said the supermarket chains don't want those potatoes because they are too large and people want potatoes that "look pretty" on the plate. All these I wondered where all them big potatoes have gone to. What a waste!

Excellent tip! Minimizing grocery trips usually also minimizes the amount of useless things we tend to buy, as those fewer trips are better planned.

For me I've found that treating produce as one of those things that I pick up on the "in between" grocery trips helps. I like to just shop once every 3-4 weeks but I can't buy my produce like that (unless I want to pitch over half of it).
Now, I just get produce to get through a few days at a time and that saves me a lot!!

Love these tips! I always shop from the reduced fruit rack, I swear often fruit is just oddly shaped and that is why it is there. Also perfect if you are buying for food you will eat that night.
